Since 1993, the year in which the General Assembly has chosen this date, May 3rd marks a time of reflection to assess the state of press freedom in the world, to defend press independence, to remember and pay tribute to journalists who have lost their lives in the exercise of their profession, but also to celebrate the fundamental principles of press freedom.
