Montreal, February 26th 2014. Haiti. President of the Foncodi cooperative and of radio Vwa Kominote Ilavach (Voix de la communauté de l’Île-à-Vache - VKI), Jean Lamy Matulnès Junior has been imprisoned since February 24th at the National Penitentiary in Port-au-Prince. AMARC International protests against this detention which occurred after a questionable process and calls for his immediate release.
Montreal, February 19th, 2014. ARTA FM community radio has not been allowed to broadcast its program since Tuesday, February 18, following the outbreak in its office of fifteen armed agents of the Autonomous Police of the Syrian Kurdistan (the Asayish, tolerated by the Damascus regime) calling for the closure of the radio broadcasting. AMARC International calls Kurdish authorities of Syria to guarantee the immediate return on the airwaves of the station.
Montreal, February 11th, 2014. On the occasion of the third World Radio Day, on February 13th, 2014, AMARC is working to increase access to the airwaves for local and community radios.
