  • Our Resource, Our Rights, Our Life on 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence

    00:00

The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is an important moment for all of us to participate and support the movement against all forms of violence against women in both the domestic and the public sphere.

Based on the Annual Note of the National Commision of Women (Komnas Perempuan) in 2013, we knew there had been about 280 000 cases of violence against women. The number of sexual violence cases is about 5600, increased from about 4300 cases in 2012. This means that, every 3 hours, there are at least two women who have experienced sexual violence.

Building a world without violence, where all human beings including women and girls, can obtain justice for their rights are ideals that we should strive for. But without awareness and support of all elements of society and government, then these ideals are difficult to realize.

On the occasion of (the 16 Days campaign), host Noor Chasanah of JRKDem presents the results of an interview with Mrs.Titim Fatmawati from the organization SAPUAN (Friends of Women and Children). Mrs Fatmawati shares SAPUAN’s activities for the campaign “One day, one voice” on the 16 days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence with the theme "Our resources, our rights, our life or the right to sustainable resource".

  • Égalité femme homme, encore du chemin à faire. Épisode 4: L’articulation du temps de vie

    00:00

    Coordination: Eric Labaj

  • Geschlechtsspezifische Gewalt in Uganda. Vom Versuch Brücken zu schlagen (Gender-Based Violence in Uganda: An attempt to build bridges)

    00:00

Being a woman, what does this mean in East Africa, Uganda? During the broadcast, Jean Kemitare, programme manager of Raising Voices Uganga looks into this and other questions. Because of her work in the field of prevention of violence against women, Jean Kemitare allows to make several links: between the experience of gender-based violence and the social norms of community, between local activities and their embedment in a global context, between so-called feminists of colour and western feminists.

The broadcast is based on an interview, which was taken during Jean Kemitare’s visit of a conference named Peking+20: Women’s Rights and Equality. Sharing Experiences > Thinking New > Shaping the Future on the 9th and 10th of June 2015, in Vienna, Austria.

  • Our Lost Sisters in Canada

    00:00

Feminicides – the killing of women because of their gender – have been occurring for decades in both Mexico and in Canada.

Why has there been so much impunity surrounding these cases and so little justice for the victims and their families? What can be done to put a stop to them, to help Mexican women and Indigenous women in Canada live their lives unthreatened and in peace, as they should in both countries?

What parallels can be drawn between both the Mexican and Canadian feminicides cases?

In this two-part documentary series, Emma Noradounkian seeks answers to all of these questions, and more. The words, interviews, and production of this series are by Emma Noradounkian of CKUT.

This is part two of the documentary. Listen to part one here.
